The 3rd Vascular Surgery Department of the Athens Medical Center is the unit that treats the whole range of vascular conditions, from aortic aneurysms to venous insufficiency. It was founded in 2019 and consists of 4 specialist vascular surgeons and 3 specialist anaesthesiologists. Their expertise covers the entire spectrum of even the most complex vascular surgical conditions.<\/p>\n

The team discusses every case in detail. It decides the best possible treatment, the safest anaesthetic protocol and the type of tests the patient needs before and after the procedure.<\/p>\n

As a department of a private hospital it cannot by law take on trainees, which is why patients are treated only by experienced specialist surgeons. At the same time, a particularly specialised team of nurses has been established. The nurses visit patients at home, with the aim of reducing the cost of a hospital stay, caring for the patient in a familiar environment next to their relatives, and preventing hospital-acquired infections.<\/p>\n

Finally, every vascular surgery department of this level should research and publish the results of the treatments it provides. It should also take part in new research protocols, so as to offer our patients whatever is new in the treatment of vascular surgical conditions.<\/p>\n

How does the team work?<\/h2>\n

Every case is discussed jointly before a decision is taken. The vascular surgeon determines the treatment strategy, the anaesthesiologist the safest protocol for the particular patient, and together they define the preoperative assessment required. This approach matters particularly in older patients or those with comorbidities.<\/p>\n
