Without another solution, the prospect is amputation.<\/p>\n<h2>How does the conversion of veins into arteries work?<\/h2>\n<p>The technique diverts arterial blood into the venous network of the limb, so that the veins take on the role of the arteries and supply the tissues. It is the last option before amputation and is applied in specialised centres.<\/p>\n<h2>Who is it intended for?<\/h2>\n<p>Mainly in patients with <a href=\"https:\/\/bisdasmd.gr\/en\/diabitiko-podi\/\">diabetic foot<\/a> and extensive occlusions in the arteries below the knee, where conventional revascularisation is not feasible. Every technique that offers an alternative to patients with no other options has direct significance for saving the limb.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"njc-ext2\">\n<h2>What is critical ischaemia?<\/h2>\n<p>It is the advanced stage of peripheral arterial disease, where the blood supply has become critically inadequate. It presents with pain in the leg at rest, particularly at night, with wounds that do not heal and with a cold, pale or blue toe.<\/p>\n<h2>How is the assessment carried out?<\/h2>\n<p>From palpation of the pulses and the ankle-brachial index, to colour duplex ultrasound and CT angiography. The aim is to map which vessels remain patent.
