What is the Nexus Duo endograft
The Nexus Duo is a new-generation branched endograft, designed specifically for the endovascular repair of the aortic arch. The arch is the most demanding segment of the aorta, since the vessels supplying the brain and the upper limbs arise from it. Unlike conventional straight endografts, the design of the Nexus Duo allows the aneurysm to be sealed while blood flow to the branches of the arch is preserved.
When it is used
The Nexus Duo is used mainly in aortic arch aneurysms and in aneurysmal degeneration following chronic type A aortic dissection - that is, in patients who have already had surgery or cannot undergo open repair with sternotomy. For many of these patients, the endovascular solution is the only realistic treatment option.
How the procedure is performed
The implantation is performed in the hybrid operating room, with minimally invasive access through the femoral artery. It takes place under continuous high-resolution imaging guidance. Neither sternotomy nor cardiopulmonary bypass is required. The endograft is advanced with catheters to the site of the aneurysm and deployed with millimetre accuracy, excluding the aneurysm from the circulation.

Open repair of the aortic arch requires sternotomy, cardiopulmonary bypass and a prolonged hospital stay. Endovascular repair with Nexus Duo offers less surgical trauma, reduced blood loss, a shorter hospital stay and a faster return to daily life. Theodosios Bisdas and his experience with the Nexus system
Theodosios Bisdas is one of very few vascular surgeons internationally with experience of first implantations of the Nexus system in three countries. He performed the first implantation in Greece of the Nexus Duo at the Athens Medical Center.
